Specialist Spotlight-October 2025

Each month I like to highlight the specialists that I trust in the Denver, Lone Tree, Highlands Ranch, or Greenwood Village areas of Colorado. Over the years I have curated my list of trusted referrals to send my patients and family to for consultations.

Dermatology is a critical component of a total body preventative strategy especially for those of us living chronically at 5000 ft elevation. Epidemiological studies estimate that melanoma incidence increases by about 2% per 10 meters of altitude, which translates to roughly a 10-fold increase (or about 200%) in melanoma risk at 5,000 feet compared to sea level. For my patients, a yearly skin exam with dermatology is non-negotiable especially for those that are big into outdoor activities like golfing, hiking, and skiing. This increased risk is most pronounced for melanoma and keratinocyte cancers (basal cell and squamous cell carcinoma), with higher rates observed in high-altitude regions such as Colorado, where melanoma incidence is 30% higher than the US average. Cherry Hills Dermatology has been my go to referral for years now and I personally see Dr. Gil Weintraub, MD for preventative skin exams and other services.
